[Bug 1450518] [NEW] System fails to boot after update to version 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1

Public bug reported:

After updating to version 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1 the system failed to boot
in normal mode. After booting into recovery mode I had to downgrade 5
packages to version 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.

Excerpt from apt log-file history.log:
Start-Date: 2015-04-29 14:53:17
Upgrade: libnm-util2:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1), tor-browser:amd64 (4.0.8-1~webupd8~0, 4.5-1~webupd8~1), libnm-glib-vpn1:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1), network-manager:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1), gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1), libnm-glib4:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1)
End-Date: 2015-04-29 14:53:25

After this my kubuntu wouldn't boot. So I downgraded these packages and the boot was working again. Next excerpt from history.log:
Start-Date: 2015-04-30 15:28:43
Commandline: /usr/sbin/synaptic
Downgrade: libnm-util2:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28), libnm-glib-vpn1:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28), network-manager:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28), gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28), libnm-glib4:amd64 (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28.1, 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu28)
End-Date: 2015-04-30 15:28:52

After this I can again boot normally, so one of these packages must have
caused a problem.

I'm running kubuntu utopic 64-bit with dm-crypt/luks and LVM.
