[Bug 1463901] [NEW] closing lid no longer suspends

Public bug reported:

after installing gnome3-staging PPA on vivid (ie, gnome 3.16), closing
my laptop's lid no longer results in the system suspending.

journalctl shows that the lid close event is detected:

Jun 08 16:57:23 leafy systemd-logind[947]: Lid closed.

but nothing actually happens. only way to suspend seems to be to ALT+Click the power button in the right side gnome shell top panel menu, which seems not terribly discoverable for normal users.
