[Bug 748310] Re: big print jobs dying without printing

Can you check whether this could be a CUPS issue?

Check whether the issues happens if you first print into PDF and then
send the PDF to the printer. If the file does not print correctly, then
this is more a CUPS issue.

Background: On Ubuntu 11.04 (and also on 10.04) on CUPS filtering
process calls GhostScript, which crashes if the document contains large
images. Some of the issues have been fixed on GS 9.04 (replacing
ghostscript helped for my problems).

Title:
big print jobs dying without printing

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If I have a document with various images and I print it in booklet
mode in many copies, the printing process ends without any print
  beeing produced.

There is a number of copies which, if I keep below it all goes right,
if I go above it the print doesn't happen.

The bug was present in openoffice 3.x and in libreoffice 3.x too.

  I'm using the driver "Ricoh Aficio MP 2550 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6"

Tipically, a 4 pages A5 document with text and about 7/8 b/w images,
printed in A4 landscape booklet mode, can be printed in 500 copies,
and in print manager it shows a 150MB spool file , but it cannot in
  900 copies (300MB). I have 2GB ram.

The bigger the images, the lower the critical number of copies.

I suppose that the bigger the print file, the lower the critical
  number of copies.
