Title:
[network-admin] adding a domain breaks local lookup of the hostname
Status in “gnome-system-tools” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
My hostname is "foo", my /etc/hosts contains a line which reads:
127.0.1.1 foo
$ hostname --fqdn
foo
When I now use network-admin to set my domain to "bar", the line in /etc/hosts gets changed to
127.0.1.1 foo.bar
but
$ hostname --fqdn
hostname: Unknown host
$ sudo do_something
sudo: unable to resolve host foo
Since bug 32906 is fixed, sudo works again, but still prints the
warning message.
<persia> afflux: [...] Whatever is setting the domain isn't also
telling the resolver to search the domain, which is confusing, at
best.
TEST CASE:
1. "hostname -f" prints your regular hostname
2. add a domain using network-admin
3. "hostname -f" fails.
