Cannot install common third-party debs due to "bad quality" error

Status in software-center package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When I try to install the official deb packages for Google Chrome or
Atom, I get an error in the Software Center saying the package is of
bad quality and should not be installed. For example, the details
given for Atom read:
"Lintian check results for /home/christopher/Downloads/atom-amd64.deb:
Unknown tag "binary-file-compressed-with-upx" in profile "ubuntu/aptdaemon" at /usr/bin/lintian line 1661."
It complains about binary-file-compressed-with-upx in the details for
the Chrome package, too.
Packages known to be affected:
* Google Chrome
* Atom
* Skype
* audio-recorder
