Title:
Insertion point jumps around while typing in web forms

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
This occurs in 10.10 as of 2010-09-07 as well as in 10.04.

When typing in a web form in either Firefox or Chrome, the insertion
point jumps around during typing. If you don't notice right away,
this has the effect that characters start appearing in the middle of
some other word in the form.

I've seen this happen in GMail, Slashdot, Facebook and at
  http://www.kuro5hin.org/

This is with a first-generation early 2006 Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo)
  MacBook Pro, Model Identifier MacBookPro1,1.

There are so many different input bugs in both web browsers that I
  find Ubuntu completely unusable.
