Title:
Second suspend after reboot takes much longer than first, with HDD
  activity (Dell Latitude D630)

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

  Laptop: Dell Latitude D630

With intel graphics, KMS etc. in karmic, the first suspend after a
fresh reboot is extemely fast (1 sec).

Every further suspend takes much longer (7 sec), with the bulk of the
time (6 sec or so) spent with apparent high hard-drive activity
directly before turning off the subsystems.

The hard-drive activity is indicated by a constantly lit activity LED,
but I hear no sound from the HDD, so I don't know if there is really
  any activity going on.

The time between reboot and first suspend does not affect the suspend time.
Also, the time or activity (e.g. whether starting programs or not, etc.) between first and subsequent suspends does not affect the suspend time. I can freshly reboot, then suspend immediately after logging in (fast), the resume and suspend immediately again (this time slow).

I have seen the high hard-drive activity behaviour also at least on
jaunty, possibly on intrepid, but with the much slower suspend times
on those versions, I did not report this. Now with karmic, the
difference between fast and long suspend time is clearly noticeable
  (7x longer).
