Title:
gedit will never start on first attempt

Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
For whatever reason, in Ubuntu OO, gedit never starts on the first
attempt. It always starts on the second and additional attempts.

I did find this in .xsession-errors:
  ** (process:1675): DEBUG: zeitgeist-datahub.vala:174: Inserting 1 events

The icon shows up in the task bar for a few seconds, fading in and
out. Then it just disappears when you click on it.

To reproduce, go to the dash search, type in gedit, then click on it.
