[Bug 858771] [NEW] Slow/laggy scrolling after a short period of time

Public bug reported:

After a short period of time, scrolling becomes slow and jerky in Gedit
or anything that uses the Gedit component. Typing text can also be
affected after a slightly longer period of time causing characters to
appear sometimes 2 seconds later after each key press.

I've not experienced this before with 11.04 or 10.10. I've not yet
noticed this with any other program while this happens. Firefox etc all
seem to respond normally.

Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:	11.10
Codename:	oneiric

gedit:
  Installed: 3.1.6-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.1.6-0ubuntu1
  Version table:

        500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expect: the scrolling and typing to be smooth and responsive.

Actual result: Xorg CPU usage immediately increases to 60-100%, document
jerks up/down.
