Thanks Chris, turned out to be RemoveLocale causing it.

Since it just started and seemed to be trying to load a local file I
didn't think to check addons.

Bug description:
  While trying to load a page, firefox displays the following message in
  the window:

  Firefox can't find the file at

  This happened also with 7.0.

  The site loads fine in Konqueror.

  Pasting the actual address results in the same problem.  The site starts to load but after a second or so, the problem page replaces whatever has loaded
