  I was trying to play the URL/stream here:
  http://voxsc1.somafm.com:8850

  This has been reliable for me for the last several Ubuntu versions.

  Using gstreamer directly has no problem:
  gst-launch gnomevfssrc location=http://voxsc1.somafm.com:8850 ! decodebin ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! pulsesink
