Message #32094
[Bug 871646] Re: No notification for new messages
Even if the enveloppe is not suppposed to change and the triangle gets
blue, it's too hard to notice. I had to read on another bug report about
this blue triangle to notice it ! I liked it better to have the unread
messages count appearing on the Empathy icon. I don't know if it's
possible to have this back. It was more informative and easy to notice.

Title:
No notification for new messages
Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
My problem is this: when I am at work (I am a web developer) it happens quite frequently that people stare at my screen.
Therefore, I don't like that other people see the messages I'm getting from my girlfriend or from my business partner.
In ubuntu 11.04 I could disable "visual notifications" in empathy and
still the "little envelope" of the indicator applet was colored in
blue each time I was getting a message. That was great because I was
getting notified of a new message but nothing was displayed on screen.
In ubuntu 11.10, if I disable the visual notifications I don't get
anything when new messages arrive. Needless to say there can be half
an hour (or more) from the moment I get the message and the moment I
realize it (because I manually check).
Thanks, have a nice day!
Giordano
