Title:
  Changing keyboard model causes XKB configuration error

Status in “libxklavier” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

  This is much like bug #221196 (it may also be the same as bug #67188), but is causing trouble in my Ubuntu 9.10 VirtualBox installation.
  The hardware is an Intel MacBook Pro (purchased in October 2009).
  The source package seems to be gnome-settings-daemon.

  To recreate the bug I go to System->Preferences->Keyboard and in the Keyboard Preferences window I select the "Layouts" tab.
  I then click on the box to the right of "Keyboard model:" to select a new layout. I select Apple as the vendor. Now, whenever I select MacBook/Macbook Pro, MacBook/MacBook Pro (Intl), or Macintosh, I get the following error dialogue:
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Error activating XKB configuration.
  It can happen under various circumstances:
  - a bug in libxklavier library
  - a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
  - X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

  X server version data:
  The X.Org Foundation
  10604000

  If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
  - The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
  - The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  The results are as follows:
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  matthew@mattbook-linux:~$ xprop -root | grep XKB
  _XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "us", "mac", "lv3:ralt_switch"
  _XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "us", "mac", "lv3:ralt_switch"

  matthew@mattbook-linux:~$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd layouts = [us	mac]
   options = [lv3	lv3:ralt_switch,grp	grp:alts_toggle]
   model = macbook79
  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  matthew@mattbook-linux:~$ apt-cache policy gnome-control-center
  gnome-control-center:
    Installed: 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1

   *** 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0

  I haven't noticed any problems typing despite this error.
