Title:
gnome-mouse-properties should allow touchpad edge scrolling AND two-
  finger scrolling

Status in GNOME Control Center:
  New
Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

gnome-mouse-properties now (in Karmic) offers an option to choose
which kind of touchpad scrolling is desired. Sadly, the choice is
only between: disabled (no scrolling), edge scrolling, and two-finger
scrolling. There is no reason not to allow the user to have BOTH edge
scrolling AND two-finger scrolling, as this is permitted by the xinput
layer and the underlying touchpad driver.

There's a deeper issue there, however, which I'm not sure how I should
raise (i.e., should I file a bug-report about this, that would
probably go ignored, take the issue upstream where they will just
snigger, or what): it seems logical that *every* configuration section
in the gnome-control-center (everything that is handled by the gnome-
settings-daemon) should have a "DON'T TOUCH" option to mean: request
that the daemon leave the config exactly as it was. This is a typical
use case: I know how to configure the touchpad to behave exactly how I
want it, using xorg.conf (or HAL FDI files, or whatever) + xinput, but
because the gnome-settings-daemon insists on updating the config for
this particular device, I can no longer get the behavior I desire. If
there were a "DON'T TOUCH (leave unconfigured)" setting in the
touchpad preferences, I could just set it there and work with xorg and
xinput in my own way. Is it even worth dreaming that Ubuntu or
upstream Gnome should grant this wish?
