Title:
Scaling display goes bright/white
Status in “vinagre” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have a Sony VGN-FW31J laptop. Has ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3400 graphics card and I am using proprietary drivers:
Catalyst: 11.3
Driver packaging version: 8.723.1-100408a-098580C-ATI
2D Driver version: 8.83.6
Catalyst Control Center Version: 2.13
RandR version: 1.3
I am on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS and have Compiz enabled. I am using Remote
Desktop Viewer 2.30.2 and I am using GNOME.
The issue is that I can connect, view, and control a remote computer
without any problem. However I am trying to connect to a computer with
a larger resolution than my screen. I used to have the default
proprietary ATI drivers (that came bundled with Ubuntu, sorry but I
don't know versions etc.) and it worked fine. Since I updated to the
above versions, when I switch on "Scaling" it displays odd. Most of
the display is white and much of the colour is very brightened and
looks like it is very distorted - I can't make out the actual image at
all.
I have tried turning off Compiz, and changing a few settings that I
don't know what are for (like Vertical Sync) in the ATI CCC, but
nothing seems to fix it.
The only thing that works is if I do "vinagre reset" in a command line
window, but as soon as the screen changes (e.g. I move my mouse
around) the screen gets lighter and lighter again until it is white,
and that also displays an error message saying: "Connection to host
/reset/ was closed".
Hope someone can help and find a more permanent solution! Thanks. Let
me know if you need any more detail.
