Title:
Nautilus fails to detect the manual removal of media
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

I manually changed media from a DVD to a CD without dismounting it
first in Nautilus or other application. I was surprised to find that
the change of media was ignored by the system. I don't know what
happens to the associated interrupts, but they should be serviced.
They seem to be ignored. I suspect that Nautilus is being mushroom
managed by the kernel and its driver.
I don't think it is good software policy to suppress or ignore
interrupts having to do with the presence or absence of media. In
fact, I think it is totally inappropriate to do so. Operating
silliness like this went out with the ATLAS-8. And yes, I am angry.
There must be someone who knows this system that can get this right.
