I added to this bug report 874762 at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874762. Now its the next day and while
loading the slow Nautilus if you click a folder while Nautilus is not
completey loaded (IE obvious the window is still loading and the box in
the lower right says loading), it causes Nautilus to close without
warning. Also you do not get a crash report indicator. (maybe crash
indicator was depreciated in Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release
amd64 (20111012).

Title:
  Nautilus Very Slow loading and changing Folders even when Folders are
  empty. LONGER! if more than a few folders or files.

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Nautilus is slow to load even when loading an empty folder. Takes
  longer to open a folder with a more than 6 folders in it.  Even longer
  to load the home folder first or going back to home folder. When I say
  slow to load, I mean 30 seconds when loading home or going back to
  home folder.

  New install Ubuntu 11.10 release.

  I lowered the preview icons size to 1mb and still a problem. As I said
  it is even long when opening an empty folder.

  AMD 64 so using 64 bit version of Ubuntu 11.10.

  The following Hard Drive Config I have used since Karmic with no
  troubles.  I did do a format on SDA and SDB drives.
