Message #37086
[Bug 877245] [NEW] cannot load unity-3d on nvidia system - cannot find GLX extension
Public bug reported:
I'm not positive this is a jockey bug, but here goes:
I upgraded my nvidia-card laptop from Natty (running unity-3d
successfully using nvidia-current) to Oneiric. But when I logged in to
Oneiric, I could only get a Unity-2d session. The nvidia-current module
was being loaded correctly - the problem was that X was loading the mesa
libGLX xorg library. I think glxinfo said the GLX extension was not
present.
Using jockey, I tried uninstalling the nvidia-current module and
rebooting so that the nouveau module could be used, but this also was
unable to provide 3D to X.
Again with jockey, I installed nvidia-current and had the same problem.
This time, I think glxinfo reported something like 'NV-GLX extension not
found'.
The fix was to manually add this to the /etc/X11/xorg so that X would
load the nvidia GLX module, and then re-login:
