[Bug 883698] [NEW] keyboard layout indicator shows static keyboard icon, not layout

Public bug reported:

Keyboard indicator doesn't show current keyboard layout in Ubuntu 11.10 running GNOME 3 Classic (fallback) mode.
It shows only a useless keyboard icon; when clicked, it shows layout selection menu; keyboard layout switching shortcuts are working too.

In Unity it shows a keboard icon with language code near it if you have
more than one keyboard layout, but this is not the case for GNOME 3
Classic (fallback) mode.

As you can see, it had happened before in Ubuntu 10.04 (bug #531173) and
11.04 (bug #826719).

** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
