[Bug 884709] [NEW] Evolution is not able to display mails while downloading other mails.

Public bug reported:

Hi!

I’ve had this bug before the upgrade to Oneiric, so it is not a regression.
If have a very bad access to the Internet there: the DNS fails most of the time, most packages are lost and the local server does not always resend lost packages. This is not the fault of Evolution of course.
The fact is the with this connection I’m not able to read my mails while Evolution is downloading others. I guess it is a problem of mutex (two processes of Evolution that both tries to read the same file), but I’m not sure at all.
When I ask Evolution to download mails, I’m no longer able to read others mails, including already downloaded ones.
Each time I ask Evolution to read an old mail (by clicking on it) a new job appears underneath, but the old ones are not erased…
This can be problematic as I have sometimes to kill all the job of Evolution to be at last able to read old mails. Sometimes it works well, but I guess it is because the connection get better (it is a wifi one and it is very fluctuant). When I disconnect the computer to the Internet, all jobs stopped and I can read old mails too.
I have tested it in other buildings — when the Internet connection is much better — and the issue does not appears there. It seems it is just because my current connection is a very bad one.
I hope the informations of Apport will be useful. If you need any further information, just ask.

By the way, with the new version of Evolution, it seems that it is not
possible to kill a job that easily (it just adds a message “cancelling…”
for this job) and it is thus much more difficult to read my mails…

I’m afraid it is not easily reproductible without simulating my Internet
connection, but I can reproduce such a lag nearly as I want when I’m
here. If you want me to send statistics of my connection or log of
Evolution or something else, just ask!

With thanks!
Martin.
