Problem is probably in python-papyon package, which is the actual MSN

Title:
Unable to connect to MSN/Windows Live network

Status in “papyon” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Empathy is unable to connect to MSN/Windows live network. It hangs
indefinitely, waiting for login. Killing the telepathy-butterfly
process does not help – it is re-spawned and still cannot connect on
  new attempt.

Problems started a day ago or so. Empathy will just display the logon
processing spinner in top right corner of the contact list. Tried to
connect from multiple different networks/ISPs in Norway without
  success. Using default server/port: messenger.hotmail.com:1863.

I see no error messages in log files or dialogs.
