Re: [Bug 882128] Re: upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 has lost previous wallpapaer and layout settings and will drive my wife nuts
Hi Sebastian
My comment did acknowledge that it was not a bug in the normal sense,
but the immediate options for comment did not send me to any obvious
alternative.
I have encountered one serious bug, but haven't had a chance to check
that it is still there after I eventually found out how to do the
updates.
(Which is another grumble - unlike the previous version, this latest
screen layout does NOT make life easy to loccate functions like Ubuntu
Updates.)
BUG
LOCK-UP / freeze WHEN CHANGING USER
This cannot be cleared except by switching off at the mains.
It is OK when only one user is logged on to the computer, or when you
change to a second user and stay there.
Swapping from user A to user B gets into the lock-up / freeze when
going back to user A.
The latest updates may have cleared this - I will check when I get time.

Title:
upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 has lost previous wallpapaer and layout
settings and will drive my wife nuts
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
After unsuccessfully trying to get Java installed for use with Firefox
- unsuccessful because the method is far too complicated to be done
quickly - I checked for updates and found Ubuntu 11:10 waiting. This
has a significantly different screen layout by having the "toolbar"
down the left, losing some of the links from the top toolbar, having
no taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and making the previous
wallpaper unobtainable. I can't find how to restore previous
appearance, layout, etc. Open windows have only 3 buttons in top
right corner WITH NO DISTINGUISHING INDICATION OF Minimise, Close
Window, etc. I know this is supposed to be bug reporting, but it is
the first feedback option I could find. Ubuntu 11:10 needs sorting to
allow familiar features to be retained when a user has set up their
computer for their convenience.
