Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  This bug was originally reported in comments to Bug #185144. Since it
  is a somewhat different problem, a new report was requested.

  The problem is that NetworkManager 0.7 in jaunty doesn’t show a
  tooltip while connecting with an AP. Previous versions used to show a
  tooltip informing about the AP to which a connection is being
  established. This should be reimplemented.
