This usually means your local copy of the .deb is corrupt. Try deleting
it and then do the upgrade again:

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-settings-daemon_3.2.2-0ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-missing

  I created a new user, rebooted into new user, but still get same
  Update failure.  Please help!
