[Bug 907821] [NEW] gedit does not launch from command line

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 907820 ***

Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 and just noticed that gedi does not launch from the command line , but launches flawlessly from the dash
How do I reproduce the problem :
1. vibhav@vibhav-VirtualBox:~$ gedit path/to/file
#yeah its absolutely blank , no output is displayed
2. When I launch gedit using dash , it launches perfectly but I get some output on the terminal
"** CRITICAL **: _gedit_app_get_window_in_viewport: assertion `GEDIT_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed"

3. And when I close the gedit session (launched by the dash) , my
terminal (from which I launched gedit which was unresponsive) exits to
bash

apt-cache policy gedit returns
