Title:
firefox 10 crashes on loading any java applet

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  PROBLEM

Firefox crashes and closes when trying to load a page with a java
applet. Then shows a crash report to send to Mozilla.

  STEPS

  1. Download Java from http:/www.java.com (jre-6u30-linux-i586.bin), extract, and soft-link the file <java folder>/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ so we have the link /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libnpjp2.so
  2. Close firefox and open again
  3. in URL of Firefox type about:plugins and you 'll see that java plugin is installed
  4. go to http://jmol.sourceforge.net/demo/ribbons/ which contains a java applet

  RESULT

  Firefox immediately crashes and closes.

  EXPECTED RESULT

Firefox loads the java applet and remains open

  System info:

  Ubuntu 12.04
  All packages updates
  Firefox version 10.0~b4+build1-0ubuntu1
