I strongly suspect this is actually due to intential limitations of
functionality in the global menus. Re-opening on Unity.

  When using the globalmenu extension and Unity, it is not possible to
  the middle or right mouse buttons on the items in the history and
  bookmarks menu, to open them in a new tab or window, or to manage the
  bookmarks directly within the menu.
