[Bug 921610] Re: playback halts, refuses to play subsequent tracks

I had the same problem until I turned off crossfading (Edit ->
Preferences, Playback tab, uncheck "Crossfade between tracks").
Crossfading never worked with MP3s, so no big loss.

Title:
playback halts, refuses to play subsequent tracks

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The player is going along fine, stepping through the play list, and
then the playback on a subsequent track does not begin, the toolbar
icon is still in play-mode, but the progress needle does not move and
the track does not play; other apps are able to play sound (using aoss
for example); even if I select other tracks that have recently been
played (to show that it is not the fault of the mp3 itself) the player
will not play them. The only solution is to exit the program and
  start it up again.
