[Bug 1374842] [NEW] Impossible to use 2x DisplayPort (Dualmonitor) with HP EliteBook 840 G1 on HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station
Public bug reported:
I have a HP EliteBook 840 G1 laptop that I use in combination with a HP
2013 UltraSlim Docking Station (REV V1.00). I cannot use both
DisplayPort connectors of the docking station to enable a dual-monitor
setup. If I try to do so, I get a mirrored image instead. The "Displays"
tool shows the built-in display and only one of my monitors (at home,
where I'm writing this, I have the same monitor (Asus PB278Q) twice). In
my office I tested with different monitors and only one of them showed
up.
I tried my installed system (Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.1 with Gnome Flashback
(Metacity), 64 bit) and a live system (Ubuntu Desktop 14.10 Beta 2, 64
bit) with the same results.
I know that the setup should work since the machine is dual-boot and
works with Windows 7.
I updated both BIOS (to version 1.20 (2014-07-28) and docking station
(to version 2.18.000 (2014-03-07)) with no change to the issue.
The following workarounds work:
- Imitating a single monitor with a resolution of (3840x1080) This maybe only work because the monitors are of the same type.
- Attaching one of the monitors to VGA instead of the DisplayPort (reducing the usable resolution to 1920x1080)
Attaching one of the monitors to the laptop's DisplayPort connector
leaves the screen blank.
I'm willing to give more info or test things but I am not sure on what
to add.
** Affects: unity-control-center (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
