[Bug 1364458] Re: Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4500C/5550C not recognized in 14.04, worked in 12.04

If the driver worked B4 upgrade why is it not working now? Why will this
issue be closed in 36 days without resolution?

Title:
Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4500C/5550C not recognized in 14.04, worked in
  12.04

Status in “sane-backends” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After distro-upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 simple-scan does not work.
This has been an issue in the past when I tried 13.04 and I reported
it as a bug. This is why I stayed with 12.04. Now that the new LTS
upgrade is available I'm outof luck. I tested my Acer 64-bit laptop
connecting to the scanner running the same 14.04 distro upgraded
system and it works on the laptop. So this bug may not be distro
related, rather desktop vs. laptop hardware related. You must have
all hardware info on this particular desktop. As I said before scanner
works on this desktop with 12.04 (or on Fedora-3 for that matter), but
not with 13.xx or 14.04 Ubuntu. - Janos
