[Bug 1386742] [NEW] "Additional drivers" recommends wrong solution for BCM4318
Public bug reported:
On my Acer Aspire 3613WLMi laptop I have the following wireless network
card:
thue@thue-Aspire-3610:~$ lspci
[...]
06:05.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
[...]
Which is not automatically working on installation. The "additional
drivers" in the ubuntu control center recommends downloading a
properitary driver (see attached screenshot) - after I install that the
network card doesn't actually work, and the kernel oopses.
But if I after much googling install the firmware-b43-installer package
from the Ubuntu repository, then my wireless network card works! So IMO
the "additional drivers" should offer that solution for this device, at
least as an option. The "additional drivers" dialogue actually continues
to say "this device is not working" after I have done this, even though
the wireless network connection is up and running.
