Title:
desktop nonresponsive to keyboard. inadequately responsive to mouse
Status in metacity package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
This has happened a few times in the last week, after coming back to
the machine after being away for a few minutes.
I cannot move windows with the mouse.
<alt><tab> to switch between windows does nothing.
Clicking on the desktop bar, Applications, Places, System does not
produce drop downs to select from.
I can click on an item on an application's menu bar, it highlights,
but the drop down doesn't happen.
I can click on a text input area, e.g. gedit, but do not see a cursor,
and typing does not appear.
Clicking on the application's icon on the window top does nothing.
Keyboard accelerators, such as <alt>f to get the File drop down menu,
do nothing.
<alt><control>Fn does bring up a text console. on the second try.
<alt><control>Fn gets me back to GUI.
After that:
Clicking on the application's terminate icon on the window top
sometimes works.
<alt><control><backspace> causes X to restart, allowing me to log in
again.
