Title:
  "metacity --replace" stalls and hangs

Status in metacity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
i lost the top bar of windows (the one that contains the minimize,
  maximize, and shutdown buttons).

i issued "metacity --replace" and "sudo metacity --replace"

the terminal hung and after an hour or so, i received the following
  message:

Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x3e07f04 (GIF Option)
Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0 timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed.

the top bar is reinstated. however, if i close the terminal that hung,
the bar disappears again. also, i have to invoke "metacity --replace"
each and every time i sign on.
