Thank you Jason,

I am also wondering dhis2 runs toncat 5.* version. Where exactly do I put environment variable for DHIS2_HOME.  The account I am using has previlleges to add some environment settings using .bash_profile. I am not sure though if dhis is able to find such settings.

And may be to ask, does dhis work only on Ubuntu? Or even other Linux versions?

Doing some background studies to see it work. Any solution on other Linux version will be of great help.

This really depends a lot on your hosting company.

In general, it is best to use a hosting company which provides you
direct access to the server (Amazon, Linode ) with enough privileges
to modify and control the environment of the server itself, such as
setting enviornment variables, scripts for backup jobs, etc. I am not
aware of anyone else using this type of hosting arrangement. If you
look at the implementation guide, there are quite detailed
instructions for Ubuntu, on a remote host, but assuming you have been
granted quite a bit of privileges on the server.
