Re: DHIS2 in Non-Health programs and projects

Many thanks Jason!.

it helps me to take the decision to invest some time in experimenting with the system. I will be glad to share my experiences in the future.

Kindly,

Alvaro

Hi Alvaro,
I have been involved in two projects (maybe three ) where DHIS2 was used outside of the typical health arena. One you mention, namely food security. There were some challenges here due to the use of a lot of financial data, which did not always fit very well with the dimensional model of DHIS2. It can work, but was not always an easy fit. We have also used DHIS2 for water and sanitation, and owing to the somewhat similar domain as health, was a much easier fit.

The third (perhaps rather extreme) use of DHIS2 which I know if personally, is for recording of golf scores and subsequent calculation of handicaps. Again, not an easy fit, but it can work. Just to demonstrate the flexibility of the platform, when applied with enough gusto.

Regards,
Jason

    Dear all:

I think this question has been asked before but I cannot find it.
I apologize in advance if it has happened. I would like to know if
somebody have used DHIS2 in development projects (agricultural,
emergency assistance, food security, etc.). If yes, could you be
so kind to share how your experience have been in this regard, how
well does your projects fits into this system, what challenges
have you faced, and main advantages that you found.

I am about to test this software, and I will be glad to share my
experience as well, but I guess it will take me some weeks to
document my experience. But meanwhile it would be great to have at
least some quick information from your experience.

    Thanks a lot!

    Alvaro
