when i use the google contacts plugin  all addresses format as
///user@xxxxxxxx

i have found that if i open a terminal and type
gnome-open mailto@user@xxxxxxxx or gnome-open mailto://user@xxxxxxxx 
i get the same error in gmail or thunderbird

while if i use  
gvfs-open mailto:user@xxxxxxxx  or gvfs-open mailto://user@xxxxxxxx

it works fine 
i don't know enough about linux to find the source code on the plug in to see if admending this command 
would make any odds to the plugin
