Message #01184
[Bug 349195] [NEW] Open with doesn't allow you to uses aliases or programs not listed as apps
Public bug reported:
Example 1: I think of my text editor as 'gedit' but Do knows it as 'Text Editor'
I create an Alias so I can launch gedit by typing gedit in Do -> I am happy
I want to open a file with gedit. I select the file I want, choose 'Open With' and then type 'Gedit'. it doesn't find my text editor. This confuses me because I forgot Do knows my text editor as 'Text Editor' because I always use the alias.
Example 2: I have a script to open my text editor with gksudo (because I am lazy). It lives in /usr/bin/sgedit
I would like to be able to select /etc/X11/xorg.conf and then open it with sgedit, but as sgedit doesn't have a .desktop file anywhere I don't seem to be able to use 'open with' with it. (inkscape shows up instead :S)
I think, oh, I know, I'll create an alias - but then I hit example 1.
Surely the same rules apply for things that can be used to 'open with'
as things that can be 'run' in the first pane?
