Hello David,

This is a little hard to explain, but Pidgin uses 3 or 4 different
sources of information to display contact names.  First, there is a
field called "name".  Usually this is the raw account name of your
buddy, for msn this would be buddy@xxxxxxx.  Then there are server and
local aliases.  MSN allows people to set a server alias, so
buddy@xxxxxxx could set their alias to "Buddy".  A local alias is
something that you would define for your buddy.  I believe skype
allows people to set a "server alias" but it seems like the
pidgin-skype plugin isn't picking up that server alias, and is only
displaying the contact's raw account name.

So, it's sort of a pidgin-skype problem, but I've done a lot of work
on the pidgin plugin and added a lot of code to check for all types of
contact aliases.  I could have actually already fixed your issue.  Are
you familiar with building do & do-plugins from source?  If you can,
my branch here:
https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~cszikszoy/do-plugins/pidgin-bonjour
might solve your problems with skype.  It would be extremely helpful
if you could test that and let me know if everything is fixed there.
