very superficial info. on fsck

Status in “ubuntu-docs” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Hi all,
I tried accessing help.ubuntu.com, wiki.ubuntu.com, google search, debian , google but of no avail. While there is ample documentation to tell how to read fsck errors but not what to do when fsck dies. I have a vague idea that one has to put on the live CD, mount the hdds (don't know how) though & then run fsck or one of its brethens. There is also no mention about how fsck, & e2fsck are differemt.
There is also no documentation about how one can collect data or what data is to be collected (i.e. is useful) in case if the filesystem is corrupted. Also no documentation if there are any other rescue tools either in universe or somewhere else which could help. There needs to be either a collection of some wiki pages or a dedicated trouble-shooting guide the alternatives & what it means to use those alternatives.
