First step: "Open Device Manager (System → Preferences → Hardware
Information)."
This menu entry isn't present in a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04. I
don't think I can overstate how breathtakingly bad it is to require
users to open non-existent tools as a troubleshooting step.
