We only have two branches: trunk and 1.0.x.

We need series (1.1, 1.2, etc) to set targets. We can target 1.1 for a
set of bugs and features. When these are (almost) done we create a
1.1.x branch from trunk to stabilise in preparation for a release.

The model is simple: development in trunk and bug fixes (and sometimes
urgent features) in the 'current' (pre-)release branch.
