I take it your first Dupliciity-Full backup used an actual encryption "key" not just password encryption? In other words, you 'need' your .gpg directory unlike those who use the simpler password only encryption without keys.
(ie what happens when you move/rename the .gpg folder in addition to the cache folder...)

fyi, I'm no dupe expert yet myself...
