[Bug 1242213] [NEW] Blank login screen after upgrade from 13.04 -> 13.10

Public bug reported:

I upgraded my desktop from 13.04 to 13.10 using do-release-upgrade.
After the upgrade, there is no more login screen. There is just a blank
screen. Tried resetting unity using various fixes like removing .gconf,
.compiz etc., but nothing works.
