[Bug 1270181] [NEW] dconf editor setting to remove sound indicator from panel not working

Public bug reported:

"gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.sound visible false" does not
remove the sound indicator from the top-panel.

alternatively, "dconf editor > com > canonical > indicator > sound >
visible = false" does not remove sound indicator from top-panel

The visible setting in dconf editor is set to "disabled" yet the sound
indicator still appears in the top panel.

Using Ubuntu 13.10, fully up to date as of 17 Jan 2014.
