This started to happen after I manually messed up with the order of
plugin loading uding dconf-editor, in order to try to fix the fact that
some options were not saved upon restart.

I could fix it by changing back the list in
/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/core to have 'unityshell' as its last
argument.
