A simple way of avoiding this being feature creep would be to make it
always happen, rather than being optional. That would also ensure it
benefits everyone, rather than just the people who find the option.

Bug description:
  I know a lot of alarms start off quiet, and gradually get louder as
  time goes on. Might be a nice feature. The only con of this is feature
  creep.
