I have tried both, without doing any specific benchmarking, i.e. I
started with 32bit, only after realized this is a 64bit computer and so
installed Jaunty 64bit.

To be honest, I didn't notice any difference in performance. 

A couple of issues came up on the 64bit version: flash plugin wasn't
working with Opera (fixed by installing the native 64bit release
candidate plugin from adobe), grub doesn't autocomplete (this is a
known issue with 64bit grub, waiting for a solution).
