To be honest, at this point a literal rewrite with no revision history
seems like a bad idea to me. And it's impossible to review *changes* as
such.

Could you please make commits per feature, like the ones you stated
above? Otherwise all this reasoning is going to be lost in mail archives.

And I'm curious, why should search be removed? I do agree the toolbar is
a bad idea, but the search itself could be a key binding in my opinion.
