Capture The Web: User Driven Content

Hi All,

Ok, try and keep this short...

I mentioned in previous emails about my view of where media centers and of course Moovida was failing.
One area I touched upon in particular, and one question I had was "why do I, as a user have to wait for a developer to write a plugin for the content I enjoy?" and why is every media center just effectively spending time reformatting webpages into a TV based form factor.

I firmly believe having seen the effort that used to go into plugins while working on Moovida, just how crazy it is to wrestle with crappy API's or produce a plugin that is nothing more than a crappy RSS feed. Every media center or HTPC project struggles with getting content, content and more content. Doing deals or more lackluster apps and plugins.

Content moves faster than that on the web, it is more varied and sometimes more personal. The best media based websites are those like YouTube where the content is user generated and shared.

I want to be able to capture any bit of media I see myself and store it in my media center. I want users to be able to capture content and share it with friends and a community portal over flowing with things they are capturing and offering to the community to look at.

There will still be a call for dedicated content portals and we will build plugins of course for dedicated sites no doubt, but, user driven content is more impacting, faster moving and worthwhile in my opinion.

Download this and I explain, through mockups and more one way I see it being done (5mb ZIP): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2442321/capture_content.zip

Oh and let me know your thoughts, understanding it is just an initial idea with rough mockups.
