I believe that this is the same problem that is reported firstly in the
Debian bug tracking system https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574144 and secondly in the Samba bug tracking
system: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7259 .

According to the Samba bug report it was fixed in Samba V3.5.2.

The bug still exists today in the latest Samba V3.4.7 build for Ubuntu
Lucid Linux. The lastest build for the winbind package is
winbind_2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.13.
